Bikers' breakfast
Our story
We have adopted the Bikers Breakfast initiative as a regular part of our school calendar to encourage cycling to school. We continue to work towards reducing the number of students travel to school in cars and we see cycling as a key area for us to promote to achieve this.
We advertised the bikers breakfast on the school community bulletin, printed tokens for students to take to the school cafe in the morning and handed these to students as they arrived on their bikes.
In general we don't audit the number of bikes in the bike shed, but we believe that we saw a modest increase in cycling that day. Making the bikers breakfast a regular part of our school calendar is a comitment to promoting cycling in the longer term and therefore is likely that we will not to see huge variation in the number of students cycling if it has the desired effect in the longer term - we want to maintain high numbers.
