Going for Gold

Going for Gold

About this activity

Suitable for all Silver and Gold accredited schools and nurseries.

Has your school gone the extra mile to make significant and lasting change to sustainable, active travel? This is your opportunity to tell us why you deserve Gold STARS accreditation.

A Gold STARS school demonstrates the highest level of participation and involvement. Active travel activities are identifiably engrained as part of the school’s culture and widely embraced.

To achieve the STARS Gold accreditation level you must tell your ‘Going for Gold’ story via this activity card, demonstrating an exceptional level of participation and progress in at least one of the following categories:

  • walking/scooter
  • cycling
  • road safety
  • smarter driving
  • public transport
  • student-led project

For student-led projects, you and your school travel working group can support your Junior or Youth Travel Ambassadors (JTA/YTA) to plan, develop and carry out travel activities at your school.

Read how Cooper’s Company and Coborn School demonstrated excellence in their student-led project to encourage more pupils (female pupils in particular) to cycle to school.

Read how secondary special school Riverside achieved Gold by getting their pupils cycling, increasing their confidence and concentration both on wheels and in class.
