Other independent travel activity

About this activity

Suitable for all schools and nurseries.

NB: We’re bringing together all the TfL education programmes, including STARS, under one exciting new umbrella programme called TfL Travel for Life. They will be the same great programmes, but with a new name and a new look, easier online process and dedicated support team. STARS for primary schools will be renamed TfL Explorers. STARS for secondary schools will be renamed TfL Pioneers.

We know that your schools and nurseries are creative places and your pupils, staff and communities are bursting with ideas of how to get young London moving!

This is your chance to share your school’s own original independent travel activity, different to anything else already listed on the TFL Travel for Life website.

Work with your Borough Travel Planning Officer, TFL Explorers Ambassadors, your school travel working group and colleagues to come up with ways to build pupils’ confidence to support with independent travel ensuring that the importance of safety and sustainability is at the forefront.

For example, you could organise a lunch time quiz on pupils thoughts, you could also ask pupils to create a series of videos or posters to share their experiences of staying safe. For secondary school pupils they may already be travelling alone and could share that.

Tell your story now and Get Creative!

How to evidence your activity

  • Involve your Borough Travel Planning Officer & share your ideas, agree your objectives and discuss any challenges you face.
  • Record the impact of your activity. Are pupils more confident in travelling to and from school independently? Do they have an increased awareness of their local area or how to stay safe?
  • Sign in to TFL Travel for Life account & add your story. Detail the activity, add photos, include pupil feedback and any promotional materials you produced/used.
