School Streets

About this activity

NB: We’re bringing together all the TfL education programmes, including STARS, under one exciting new umbrella programme called TfL Travel for Life. They will be the same great programmes but with a new name and a new look, easier online process and dedicated support team. STARS for primary schools will be renamed TfL Explorers. STARS for secondary schools will be renamed TfL Pioneers

A School Street is a road outside a school with a temporary restriction on motorised traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times. The restriction applies to school traffic and through traffic. The result is a safer, healthier and pleasant environment for everyone.  School Street schemes offer a proactive solution for school communities to tackle air pollution, poor health and in supporting road danger reduction.  A School Street scheme will encourage a healthier lifestyle and active travel to school for families and lead to a better environment for everyone.  Did you know that if your school has set up or is setting up a School Street, you can complete a range of TfL Travel for Life Activity Cards that align with the initiative?  Simply explore the resource links on this page and select the TfL Travel for Life Activity Cards that align best to your school’s work on School Streets, tell your story and keep working towards your TfL Travel for Life  accreditation.  A reminder to check all steps of the School Streets Activity card when submitting your Stories. Any Activity Card uploaded must be supported with evidence relating to the specific activity undertaken.
