Go for gold!
There are three levels of STARS accreditation: bronze, silver and gold
The level your school achieves depends on:
- How successful you have been in reducing car use and increasing sustainable travel
- How many travel activities you complete
Start your journey towards a safer, healthier school environment
Engage with wider school community to influence travel behaviours; start to see a shift away from car use for your pupils, parents/carers and school staff.
Be among the top 10% of London schools, setting high standards to inspire others to transform travel habits, fully engage the wider community to promote best practices, and see a measurable reduction in the number of journeys made by car every day.
Get started on the road to accreditationOnce you have received email confirmation that your school's STARS Online account has been approved, get in touch with your borough officer to talk through the next steps. They will help you decide which activities are best for your school, identify issues and set targets for the year ahead. They can also support you to write a School Travel Plan (STP) if you don't already have one.
Explore lots of ideas for activities you can do at your school; from advice on setting up a school travel working group to running a JTA/YTA and Zigzag line enforcement. Activities are completely adaptable for your schools' and pupils' needs.
There are over 125 activities on the STARS website to choose from, all of which are included in the STARS activities menu, an easy guide to the criteria you'll need to apply.

Tell your story and inspire othersTo gain STARS accreditation you will need to tell your story for each activity your school delivers. To do this, sign into your STARS Online account, select the activity from the list and click on 'Tell your story'. You can include photos, posters, newsletters, risk-assessments and other relevant documents to show how your activity worked. You can then publish your story in the Stories section to share your achievements.
Make sure you submit all your evidence to be assessed against the accreditation criteria at the end of the school year: your school will be considered for an accreditation award at bronze, silver and gold level.
