The Big Walk and Wheel

John Bramston Primary School
London Borough of Redbridge

Our story

The Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel was promoted in class with children from years Reception to Year 6. Pupils were encouraged to think about the impact walking, scooting and cycling could have on our environment. This was then linked to a whole-school assembly on helping the environment and how we can be environmentally friendly as a community.

Posters were placed around the school and the school playground for further promotion of the event, and parents were messaged to remind them of the commencement of the event. Teachers tracked pupils journeys every day for 2 weeks from years Reception to Year 6.

Staff were sent the statistics to show how the school did overall.

An assembly was held to congratulate the winning class for the most journeys made walking/ scooting/ cycling. Each member of the class received a Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel certificate.
