In order to bring our travel survey to life for the students and to quantify our modal shift in terms of carbon saving, we are using a Carbon Calculator from the TfL Pioneers project portfolio. We worked out the average distance travelled to school uing postcodes, consulted with the 2018/19 Hands Up Survey data and used the carbon Calculator formulas to calculate our travel carbon footprint. The TfL Pioneer students worked in pairs to tackle the calculations for the different travel modes. We worked out our school's total emissions are: 165,347kg. We then discussed the limitations of our calculations but concluded it was a good estimate.

We also discussed the wider context of carbon footprints in terms of companies, consumers and celebrities and we found out that our whole school Carbon Footprint is less than Taylor Swift’s!
