Bike maintenance skills
Brent Knoll School
London Borough of Lewisham
Our story
Currently 3 of our pupils attend the Young Lewisham Project. This is a project designed to support pupils back into the classroom whilst also developing skills. They attend bike maintenance club. This is run by a bike mechanic and these hands-on sessions allow our students to get to grips with the mechanics of how a bike works.
Sessions cover the basics of making sure their bike is safe to use with an ABC (air, brakes, chain) check, repairing punctures, putting a chain back on, fixing brakes and gears.
The 3 students also attend a school bike club where they support their peers in fixing their bikes and making them roadworthy.
