The walk along the canal was a seesion out of one of the family learning workshops which we run at Greenfields called Keeping up with the children. With the canal being on the doorstep of many of our children, not many have ever ventured along it because parents say they dont feel safe to go there with their children. We talked about staying safe near the water - discussing health and safety. We took the adults first on a trail walk to the canal before taking the children with them so that they were aware of what to look out for with their children. On our way to the canal we stressed the imprtance of children holding hands with the adults and adhere to road safety rules-stop, look and listen before they crossed the roads. through this activity we provided a new walking experience which is fre for the families to enjoy which is on their doorstep.
