Balance bike training

Gifford Primary School
London Borough of Ealing

Our story

Staff needed a refresher on how to effectively teach children to use balance bikes safely. Training was provided by Ealing council.  7 staf and 48 pupils were involved. Groups of 6- 8 pupils went to the playground and Alex demonstrated how to sit correctly on the bike an how to move safely. We were also shown how to adjust the saddle to ensure a more comfortable ride. Children were reminded how to stop and to look up when moving. We went to see Alex in the playground and we went on the bikes. Alex said red light green light and the children learnt to stop and go. The training showed us as staff how to correctly show children the posture they need to balance effectively  I will ensure children are sitting in a more upright position when on the bikes in the future. Staff can now adjust the height of the bike which will make a difference to how the children ride safely.
