Road safety - designing helmets
Gascoigne Primary School
London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
Our story
During Road Safety Week, children in years 3 and 4 participated in a range of lessons, which involved discussions, recording and role playing the importance of wearing a helmet when cycling. This included looking at the differences between a cycle helmet and a motor bike helmet. Children enjoyed handling and experiencing the benefits of protecting themselves when cycling. They learned that their safety, whether cycling on the road or elsewhere, would be improved by wearing a helmet. Children were given an opportunity to research and design their own cycle helmets. They were able to record their findings using appropriate technical vocabulary and illustrations.
