Run kids run!
Our story
At the beginning of the term we discussed activities that could promote exercise outside of school. Following this our year 3 teacher saw the event 'Run Kids Run' was happening at Kings Cross near our school. This was a free event which promoted a non competitive run through the local enviroment and was also a way to raise money through sponsorship. It happened on a weekend and we managed to advertise it around school with 45 children coming down on the saturday to take part.
This encouraged the children to take part in active travel as it showed them that they can run shorter distances rather than using cars or public transport. Children successfully ran 2km and as a result, more children walked to school and one family started coming from catchment into school during the summer term rather than getting the school bus. Children and families were engaged in running and this enthusiasm and interest supports sustainable travel.
