Our school approaches our wider curriculum with a creative and broad approach. In Spring 2, Reception are covering a topic called 'Are we there yet?' The introduction to this topic is: Which vehicles move quickly? Can you ride a bike to Australia? Explore questions and travel and transport near and far! The topic encompasses the various modes of travel available. They have considered which are sustainable, which are most suitable, in addition to exploring safety when using different modes of transport. To begin their learning, Year R went on a trip which included, walking, bus journeys and train journeys. They also positioned themselves in Elm Park high street and conducted a simple travel survey. Road safety was identified to be a large area of need therefore a road safety role play area has been set up.
