World Car Free Day
About this activity
Suitable for all schools. Supports the Geography and PSHCE National Curriculum.
NB: We’re bringing together all the TfL education programmes, including STARS, under one exciting new umbrella programme called TfL Travel for Life. They will be the same great programmes but with a new name and a new look, easier online process and dedicated support team. STARS for primary schools will be renamed TfL Explorers. STARS for secondary schools will be renamed TfL Pioneers.
TfL Travel for Life is supporting the World Car Free Day on Friday 22nd September 2023. By taking part, your school will be part of a global movement to encourage active and safe travel on the journey to school. You’ll be joining children across London in celebrating the benefits of active, sustainable and independent travel.
On the day you could run an assembly and hold a whole host of travel activities to encourage parents to leave the car at home, it is entirely up to your school! See the resources section for ideas.
Encourage those who need to drive to Park and Stride – where parents park their cars a distance from school and walk the last part of their journey. This could be launched at the same time as your TfL Travel for Life Car Free Day.
How it works
To participate, you will plan for the day, and take part in the World Car Free day on Friday 22nd September 2023. All the activities you run will count towards your STARS accreditation.
This activity supports the Vision Zero target to eliminate death and serious injuries on London’s streets.
