Parking poster competition
About this activity
Suitable for all schools and nurseries.
NB: We’re bringing together all the TfL education programmes, including STARS, under one exciting new umbrella programme called TfL Travel for Life. They will be the same great programmes, but with a new name and a new look, easier online process and dedicated support team. STARS for primary schools will be renamed TfL Explorers. STARS for secondary schools will be renamed TfL Pioneers.
Launch a parking poster competition to improve parking behaviour and road safety outside your school or nursery.
Ask pupils to think about what it’s like when they are dropped off and picked up at school, what the potential dangers are and how it could be safer. Then ask them to transform their ideas into a poster design.
Display the winning poster (or banner, for maximum visibility!) outside the school to encourage parents/carers to park appropriately when dropping off or collecting their children.
Work with your TfL Explorer Ambassadors to plan the competition and decide how to best use the poster to reach parent/carer drivers.
You could combine this activity with the launch of a Park and stride or Zig-zag line enforcement campaign.
How to evidence your activity
- Record the feedback from your pupils and parent/carers
- Sign in to TfL Travel for Life to add your story. Explain the activity, add photos of the competition materials you produced (including a picture of the winning poster) and include pupils’ and parent/carer feedback
This activity supports the Vision Zero target to eliminate death and serious injuries on London’s streets.
