Parent/carer involvement - house mini marathon

Bishop John Robinson Church of England Primary School
Royal Borough of Greenwich

Our story

Every year the school completes a house mini marathon. This year the Explorers wanted to change the event (moving it into walk to school week) to get parents, carers and the school governors much more hands on so they could learn about the benefits of active travel and how they could support their children to become more active. The explorers wrote a letter to parents inviting them to come to school to run with their children - showing how easy and fun it can be to be more active. An email asking the school governors to attend was sent, again asking for their support in showing (not only the children) that anyone can remain active. The explorers wrote leaflets detailing the health benefits of remaining active and providing examples of activities that could be completed at home and games that could be played whilst walking or riding / scooting to school, that parents took home at the end of the event.
