Promote responsible behaviour on public transport
Our story
Year 2 went to visit a Gurdwara in Seven Kings using public transport. Prior to the visit there were some children who said they had not been on a bus before. After this discussion, the teachers set up a role play bus sceanario to teach the children how to behave at the bus stop and whilst on the bus. They role played waiting at the bus stop safely and using quiet voices so that they did not disturb other members of the public. Then using chairs they set them up into rows of two seats to imitate what a bus was like having two spaces for downstairs and upstairs. We spoke to the children about how to enter the bus sensibly saying hello to the bus driver. To show respect to the other passengers we spoke about being polite, smiling, being quiet and keeping our hands and feet to ourselves so that we did not disturb others on the bus.
