The Royal Gunpowder Mills
Our story
Usually Year 6 travel on their school visits by TFL bus, train or on the underground, but the Gunpowder Mill at Waltham is not easy to get to by public transport and it is a VERY long walk from Clockhouse. So instead, for our trip to the WW2 munitions factory as part of our topic work we got to travel by coach.
The journey was along some twisty, windy country roads and there were lots to see on the way, including a horrible number of cars jamming up the road. Not fun! There must be more cars around now than there were back in WW2.
Greatest excitement ? Obviously double decker buses don’t usually run along these roads so we gave the low-hanging branches a bit of a hair-cut as we swept along underneath them. Some of the little branches even ended up inside the top deck as we sliced them off.
The journey home was much quicker (no traffic) and we got back just as the bell went.
