Big Debate
Benhurst Primary School
London Borough of Havering
Our story
Our school does a half termly Big Debate. This half term's topic was 'Cars are better than public transport'. The children discuss their initial thoughts in class to generate ideas to formulate an argument for each side. Each class has a representative for each side of the debate and then this is presented in assembly finishing with a whole school vote. The final vote showed a majoirty to public transport as the more favourable and effective means of travel. This debate taught the children of the benefits of sustainable travel, whilst considering why car use is still often used. It also raised the profile of the importance of travel within our school.
