Communicating with parents/carers
Our story
Our travel ambassadors recently carried out an experiment to monitor the air quality around the school site. They conducted two experiments lichen and PM analysis. Our students found that we have low levels of nitrogen in the air around our school site. The PM analysis showed a high level of dust and soot in the air. We can use the health risks associated with particle matter as a lever to encourage staff and students to travel more actively. Our students were keen to share these findings with the rest of the school community including parents and so wrote an article to be published in the school magazine sharing the method of the experiment as well as their findings. We are hoping that the data collected, particularly relating to the PM found will grab our parents’ attention and inspire them to encourage their children to travel more actively to school.
