Bikeability training
Our story
Bikeability was a huge success form Year 6 pupils at Abbey Primary School. They set out to achieve their level 2 award, becoming more confident riders and being able to navigate the roads in their local area. The training was split over 4 sessions with pupils able to gain valuable skills in road safety. Stopping and starting with confidence came quicker to some more than others, but by the end of the week, all pupils reported that they could do this well. Year 6 pupils really enjoyed negotiating the roads of Rose Hill, making their way through crossroads and roundabouts. In the case of one pupil, 'J', he explained that while he has been cycling much of his life, never has he felt comfortable on the roads until now! What was most impressive was the nerve and poise demonstrated by pupils when other vehicles were on the road. Using their training and understanding of road sign and markings, they were able to stay calm, and most importantly safe!
