Senior management and school governor involvement

Suitable for all schools and nurseries.

NB: We’re bringing together all the TfL education programmes, including STARS, under one exciting new umbrella programme called TfL Travel for Life. They will be the same great programmes but with a new name and a new look, easier online process and dedicated support team. STARS for primary schools will be renamed TfL Explorers. STARS for secondary schools will be renamed TfL Pioneers

Involve the senior management team (SMT) and school governors in your TFL travel for life  work to champion sustainable and active travel at a strategic level.

Here are some ideas of how to get your SMT and governors involved:

• Include the School Travel Plan as an agenda item at governors and senior management meetings at least once a year
• Invite them to become members of your school travel working group
• Invite them to attend TFL travel for life  activities and events, or to play an active role in their planning and implementation
• Ask them to present certificates or awards to TFL travel for life competition winners in assemblies
• Ask your head teacher to speak to new and existing parents/carers about travelling sustainably to school

How to evidence your activity

• Record the feedback from your governors and staff
• Sign in to TFL travel for life  and add your story. Explain your activity and include copies of governor or SMT meeting minutes and of any letters, emails or newsletters issued by governors and SMT staff
